- Clear, in focus, in colour, unaltered by software
- At least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall
- At least 50KB and no more than 10MB
- Own-device photos: include head, shoulders and upper body; do not crop - cropping is done by the service
- No other objects or people; no red eye; no shadows
- Plain expression, mouth closed, eyes open; no head covering unless religious/medical
- Photo booths/shops can supply a photo code instead of a file
