- Not scanned; no compression artefacts; not digitally enhanced; no barrel or other distortion
- No selfies: someone else must take the photo
- Head to mid torso, visible space between head/shoulders and edge
- Online system checks the photo on upload; for babies (0-36 months) a manual crop/oval tool may be offered
